One of a kind. A genuine antique Chinese hat box in lacquered leather, its domed lid crowned with a gilt medallion and the body painted in gold floral motifs.
Chinese hat boxes were built to store and carry a household's formal hats — cylindrical, light, made from leather over a wood frame and finished in dark lacquer. A metal ring latch closes the hinged lid over a lined interior. The gilt medallion and painted panels are the marks of a decorative example, worn to a soft patina with age.
