Faux Bois Armchairs, Set of 4 - Aged White

Reupholstered in our Houston workshop. A set of four faux bois armchairs, carved to imitate branch and bark and finished in an aged white that has settled into the grooves of the carving.

Faux bois means false wood: the frames are carved so the arms, legs, and crest read as cut limbs, complete with knots and sawn ends. The white finish is worn back on the high points, which is what makes the carving legible from across a room rather than flattening into texture.

All four have been reupholstered in a fret-pattern linen damask. The pattern is woven rather than printed, so it reads as light and shadow instead of color, and the seats need nothing done to them.
