French Louis XV-Style Carved Rosewood Bombe Commode
One of a kind. A 19th-century carved commode in the Louis XV style — serpentine bombé front, two drawers, and hand-carved leaf appliqués refinished in a pale tone against the warm rosewood, a deliberate two-tone that throws the carving into relief.
The bombé silhouette is the signature of Louis XV case furniture: curved across the front and sides, rounded over the corners, raised on small bun feet. Carved leaf swags on the drawer fronts double as pulls, and the same foliate carving runs down the front corners. The rosewood carries a deep, warm grain throughout.
A genuine antique, recently refinished — expect the patina and small irregularities of a piece that has been lived with.
